Give Jabal Al-Weibdeh its own afternoon. Paris Circle, Darat al Funun and the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts make a useful group of stops, but opening times should decide the order. Go before lunch if you want the gallery park as well as the indoor spaces.
Start from your own Jabal Amman address or campus building. German Jordanian University (GJU) has several Jabal Amman buildings, so a route labelled “from the university” can begin in the wrong place. Save the entrance and destination before leaving, and choose walking or a vehicle based on the actual route.
Three stops, with a reason to choose each
| Stop | Why go | What sets the timing |
|---|---|---|
| Paris Circle | A neighbourhood landmark and a clear meeting point. | Your group’s arrival and the route you choose next. |
| Darat al Funun | Contemporary Arab art in historic buildings. | Saturday to Thursday, 10am to 7pm; closed August and public holidays; Ramadan closes at 3pm. |
| Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts | Art exhibitions and a separate park stop. | Gallery homepage: 9am to 7pm except Fridays and public holidays; park 9am to 2.30pm. |
Venue schedules are published by Darat al Funun and the National Gallery. Check your intended date before arranging transport, particularly for a holiday or a late visit. A street walk remains possible when a gallery is closed, but it is a different outing.
Get to the right Paris Circle
Use Paris Circle in Jabal Al-Weibdeh as the meeting pin. Send the link and the neighbourhood name to anyone joining you. “The circle” without a location is not a useful pickup instruction in Amman. Choose a place on the pavement where you can wait without blocking traffic.
If arriving by car, check the destination pin before confirming the trip and pick a safe place to leave the vehicle. If walking, review the route for main-road crossings and steps. A short straight-line distance can hide a descent into a valley followed by a climb. Keep your first visit in daylight and avoid promising a walking time you have not tested.
The getting-around guide explains transport choices. Save enough phone battery for the journey back; the apps and offline-information guide explains what offline maps can and cannot do.
Visit Darat al Funun by its actual entrance
The main entrance is 13 Nadeem al Mallah Street; an upper entrance is at 9 Moh’d Ali al Saadi Street. The venue publishes +962 6 4643251/2 for contact. Darat al Funun entrances and contact. Send the entrance you have agreed to use, especially when meeting someone who is taking a different route.
Choose the exhibition or event that interests you and leave time to look at it. For a workshop, ask about registration, teaching language, equipment and any fee. For an accessibility request, name the rooms or event you want to reach so staff can advise on the route. Respect closed doors and staff instructions around the historic buildings.
Plan the National Gallery stop before the park closes
The gallery is on Husi Fareez Street. General admission is JOD 7 for non-Jordanian visitors and JOD 1 for Jordanians and residents; students of Jordanian schools, universities and institutes enter free. Bring current student proof. National Gallery admission. The museums and galleries guide compares this with other Amman venues.
If the park matters, use it before the 2.30pm closing time and leave the indoor galleries for afterwards if open. Confirm that the entrance category and any special event arrangements apply to you before paying. A student group should confirm booking arrangements for an organised class activity.
A morning route and an afternoon alternative
| When you start | Suggested order | Practical limit |
|---|---|---|
| Morning | Reach Paris Circle, visit the National Gallery park and galleries, then choose Darat al Funun if open. | Keep the park’s earlier closing time in view. |
| After lunch | Choose one indoor venue first, then meet around Paris Circle. | Do not rely on reaching the park before closing. |
| A Friday or a public holiday | Make a neighbourhood walk or choose another confirmed open activity. | These art venues do not follow ordinary shop hours. |
This is a suggested order, not a timed or measured walking route. Let the group’s pace, crossings and any accessibility needs decide whether to walk between stops. A single exhibition followed by a conversation over food can fill the afternoon without rushing.
Food, spending and the return to Jabal Amman
Set aside money for transport both ways, any admission and a meal. Use your admission category when calculating the ticket line, then add the actual menu and journey costs. Keep the three costs separate when splitting a group outing.
Ask about the specific dish and total before ordering. If you have dietary requirements, use the vegetarian and vegan food guide for ingredient questions. Keep a receipt when splitting a group bill, and agree whether people are sharing dishes or paying separately.
Before leaving the last stop, choose a return pickup and check the route to your own entrance. If you are continuing downtown, follow the downtown market guide and leave a separate allowance for the climb or vehicle ride home.
