Before your first class at German Jordanian University (GJU) Jabal Amman, save the building and room on your timetable, test your student accounts and keep your registration documents together. Those tasks make the week easier to manage than trying to solve everything between lectures.

This plan is for students attending the Jabal Amman campus. Use it alongside your programme’s instructions and the German Jordanian University (GJU) Jabal Amman campus guide. If you are still arranging arrival, the first week in Amman checklist covers airport travel, your local address and the first household errands.

Before arrival: build one working folder

Make a digital folder you can access offline and keep the originals separately. Label the files clearly so a request for a passport copy or a registration letter does not turn into a search through messages.

Keep readyUse during the first week
Passport, issued visa or approval, and travel itineraryEntry and university identification.
Acceptance letter and programme correspondenceProgramme confirmation and the right academic contact.
Student number or application referenceFinding your record when asking for help.
Certificates requested by the universityCompleting the admission or registration file.
Accommodation address and contactArrival, commuting and any address documents required.
Insurance details and payment receiptsHealth access and evidence of charges already paid.

After landing, add a clear copy of your latest entry stamp. The Ministry’s study residence checklist includes the passport, entry stamp and current proof of student status, with previous residence documentation when renewing. Keep travel paperwork separate from academic registration: finishing one does not finish the other.

Your first-week task plan

WhenActionWhat to have by the end
Before the first university visitConfirm the campus building, entrance, room and appointment time with the programme.A saved destination and the name of the person or class you are going to.
First university visitCheck that your student record and required documents are complete. Follow the instructions for student ID and registration.A list of any missing items, the responsible office and a deadline.
Before teaching startsRead your course sections and timetable, then test MyGJU and university email.A timetable you can open offline and working account access.
During the first classesRecord the teaching format, materials, attendance instructions and submission method for each course. One page of practical notes per course.
By the end of the weekReview residence tasks, insurance, payments and any registration changes.A calendar of deadlines and no unanswered task without a named contact.

This is a suggested order for organising the week. Your course, exchange agreement or graduate programme may set a different sequence. Keep the messages that apply to your own admission rather than following another student’s timetable.

Confirm registration and course choices

German Jordanian University (GJU)’s Admission and Registration Department manages online registration support, academic records, enrolment letters, course changes and examination schedules. Contact [email protected] with your student number and the exact issue. Registration responsibilities and contact details.

For a timetable problem, identify the course code, section, teacher and conflicting time. For a missing document, ask which version is needed and where to submit it. Keep a copy of the response. If you are an exchange student, match the approved learning agreement to the courses you actually register for before assuming the credits will transfer.

Use the university’s academic calendar and your programme notices to record registration changes, assessments and holidays. Do not book travel over a date simply because another class has no session then.

Test MyGJU, email and course access

  1. Sign in to the university services using your issued credentials. Keep your password private.
  2. Confirm the name and student record shown in the system.
  3. Open the timetable and the course spaces the lecturers have told you to use.
  4. Send a university email message and check that you can receive the reply.
  5. Open a course file on the device you will bring to class.
  6. Find the submission area or meeting link before the first deadline or online session.

Find your campus entrance and study facilities

The Jabal Amman campus is around First Circle and has multiple buildings. Save the exact class destination rather than a general German Jordanian University (GJU) pin. If the location is unclear, the Jabal Amman Campus Office lists [email protected] and +962 6 429 4444, extension 4482. Source: campus contact.

Walk or travel the route before a tightly scheduled class if you can. Note where stairs or hills change the journey and where a vehicle can drop you. If carrying model-making materials or a laptop, leave enough time to reach the correct door without rushing.

The School of Architecture and Built Environment (SABE) library at Daret Othman Bdeir lists Sunday to Thursday hours of 08:00 to 16:00 and closes on Friday, Saturday and holidays. Source: library hours. Use those hours when planning your study day, and confirm borrowing or workspace access for your student category with the library.

Keep residence and insurance tasks moving

Record the end of your authorised stay and ask the university contact handling your file which residence documents they need from you. Keep a submission receipt or confirmation. For the general entry, registration and extension rules, use our Jordan visa guide.

For health cover, keep the insurer’s policy number, assistance contact, exclusions and claims procedure available. Ask how any university cover works for your student category and where you can use it. Check whether treatment is paid directly by the insurer or whether you need to pay and claim back; those arrangements should come from the actual policy.

Make your study budget usable

Separate the money you need to arrive from the money you spend each week. Keep the deposit, first payment and household purchases apart from routine food and transport. Record real spending during the week so the next budget is based on your own routine.

Budget lineWhat to record
Study costsCourse charges, printing, materials and any equipment specified by the lecturer.
FoodGroceries, takeaway meals and what you spend during a university day.
TransportYour normal journey and any taxi or ride needed outside the usual routine.
Mobile and internetFirst payment, tax, renewal date, allowances and any router or installation charge.
Accommodation and billsRent, deposit, included bills, limits and the way shared charges are split.

For student apartments for rent in Jabal Amman, our room and entire-apartment options can be discussed around your semester dates. Confirm the specific unit, total cost, deposit, bill arrangements and study setup in writing before booking.

Food and a manageable daily routine

Bring a small list for the first grocery shop: breakfast, a meal you can prepare with the facilities provided, water and the household supplies you actually need. Ask what is already in the apartment before buying duplicate kitchen items.

For a meal near your university route, the shawarma guide identifies two Jabal Amman branches as well as options elsewhere in the city. Choose the branch before ordering and keep delivery fees separate from menu prices.

Leave one part of the week unscheduled. It can absorb an extra office visit, an account problem or an assignment that takes longer than expected. Once classes and errands are working, add the social activities and trips you want to keep doing.

The end-of-week check

  • You know the correct building and room for every class.
  • Your student account and university email work.
  • Any missing document has a recipient and a deadline.
  • Residence and insurance questions have been sent to the right contact.
  • You understand the main submission and attendance instructions.
  • Your commute, food routine and first-week spending are recorded.

Keep the campus and student services guide for contacts and facilities, and the Amman settling-in guide for the practical tasks outside university.
