An address in Jabal Amman needs more than the nearest circle. Keep the street name, building number and actual entrance together. That makes it easier to walk to class, explain a pickup and find the same place again after an evening out.

Understand the words used in directions

Word or landmarkWhat it helps you understand
JabalA hill or hill district; it does not identify one exact street.
Dawar, or circleA roundabout used as a familiar landmark.
Shari‘, or streetThe named road you need in addition to the neighbourhood.
Daraj, or stairsA pedestrian connection that may involve a substantial climb.
WadiA valley; moving between valley streets and a hill can change the effort of the walk.

The First, Second and Third Circles are useful reference points around Jabal Amman. Pair the landmark with the address rather than assuming everything described as near a circle shares one entrance. The everyday Arabic guide helps with short direction questions; the address guide covers the information needed for paperwork and deliveries.

Make a small address card

Save a note containing your destination’s name, street, building number, map pin and a phone contact. Add the entrance description if there are doors on more than one side. Keep a version available offline so it still helps when mobile data is unavailable.

For German Jordanian University (GJU), use the programme’s confirmed Jabal Amman building. The campus building guide distinguishes the relevant entrances. A map search for the university can lead to its main campus near Madaba, which does not answer a Jabal Amman walking question.

Stairs can change the route

The Amman Design Week and CLUSTER trail map records stair connections between Jabal Amman, downtown and Jabal Al-Weibdeh. It identifies, among others, Youssef Asfour Stairway 2 with 132 steps and Prince Muhammad, also called Al-Istiklal, Stairway with 82. Use those published counts to recognise a route involving stairs. Walking-trail map.

A route down the hill can be convenient on the outward journey and tiring on the way home. When comparing two routes, check whether one contains stairs, whether you are carrying a shopping bag and whether the return is uphill. A short distance alone does not answer which route is practical.

Try your daily route at a useful time

  • Start with the exact home entrance and the destination entrance.
  • Check where you can cross the main roads and whether the route uses a staircase or a steep section.
  • Allow time for finding the building on the first trip, then record your own ordinary journey time.
  • Choose a public landmark where you could stop or arrange a pickup if the route becomes uncomfortable.
  • Keep a vehicle alternative for carrying heavy materials or returning when conditions change.

Use the three walking-route guide for leisure walks and the taxi guide for the alternative journey. Your own measured route is more useful for a class timetable than an estimate for a different building in the same district.

Plan around shoes, weather and what you carry

Choose shoes with grip and enough support for the route. Take water and sun protection when the conditions call for them, and a layer when the return will be cooler. Check the Jordan Meteorological Department forecast before a longer outing. In wet conditions, reduce a stair-heavy plan if the surfaces are uncomfortable.

Large drawing boards, groceries and a model need a different plan from a walk with a small bag. The design supplies guide covers carrying studio work. If the load makes crossings or steps awkward, use transport for that journey instead of treating walking as an obligation.

Ask specific access questions

For someone who needs step-free access, ask about the whole approach from the road, the entrance and the route inside. A building with an accessible room can still have a difficult street approach. Send the requirement to the venue before setting out and ask which drop-off point to use.

Respect private doors and closed passages. A shortcut drawn on a map may not be a public entrance, and an open gate does not establish permission to enter. Stop in a place that keeps the stairs or pavement usable for other people.

Turn a landmark into a workable pickup

For a vehicle, choose a legal, reachable place on the road and describe the side you are standing on. A driver cannot collect you from the middle of a pedestrian staircase. Share the destination pin privately through the booking channel and check it points to the correct street.

The owner offers four properties by room or as a whole apartment for people considering apartments for rent in Jabal Amman for students who want a local daily routine. Confirm the address and entrance, then assess the route to your actual campus building. The neighbourhood name is a starting point; the everyday journey is the detail to check.
