Save an emergency number, an appointment contact and your insurance assistance details before you need them. For a semester or a work assignment, also arrange how you will obtain regular medicines and follow-up care. A few clear records make it easier to explain what you need when you are unwell.

The Public Security Directorate (PSD) lists 911 for its ambulance service and 114 for visual communication in sign language. Save these with a written address and usable building entrance. Official emergency service information. A routine appointment line or an online contact form should not delay an emergency call.

A local hospital contact to save

Al Khalidi Hospital lists its address as 39 Ibn Khaldoun Street, Fourth Circle. The main number is +962 6 464 4281 and customer care is +962 79 099 8227. Its customer-care team arranges appointments. Ask for the precise clinic building when booking because an outpatient appointment can use a different address. Hospital contact and appointment information.

For a planned visit, explain the reason for the appointment, preferred language and any access needs. Ask what consultation price applies and whether a test, imaging, medicine or follow-up would be a separate charge. Keep the booking time, clinician and building in one message you can show a driver.

Prepare a small medical record

  • Your passport or identity details, local contact number and emergency contact.
  • Insurance card, assistance number and the current policy or benefit schedule.
  • A list of medicines using generic names, strengths and the directions prescribed to you.
  • Relevant allergies, ongoing conditions and a concise treatment summary from your clinician.
  • The reports needed for the appointment, with an agreed translation if required.

Keep an accessible copy for your own use and store sensitive records securely. Share only what the clinician or insurer needs through its agreed channel. For a non-governmental organisation (NGO) assignment, ask how to contact the medical administrator privately; an employer’s general group chat is not a suitable place for a full medical history.

Student and employer medical cover

German Jordanian University (GJU) students should obtain the current medical-cover instructions after enrolment, including the network, referral process and what works from Jabal Amman. The university’s incoming guidance describes limited medical coverage and recommends additional international or travel cover. University incoming medical-cover guidance.

An employee should ask when employer coverage starts and ends, whether dependants are included and what happens during personal travel or after the assignment. Keep the assistance contact available before the first workday. The insurance comparison guide explains inpatient cover, outpatient visits, direct billing and reimbursement.

Medicines, food allergies and everyday errands

Identify a pharmacy you can contact, then ask about the exact medicine and prescription requirements. Use the generic name and strength from your records rather than relying on a package colour or a brand from another country. Discuss any proposed substitute with the pharmacist or prescriber, including allergies and other medicines you take.

For food allergies or coeliac disease, the dietary-needs guide includes Arabic requests and questions about preparation. Agree suitable food handling with housemates and keep your prescribed emergency plan available. A restaurant rating cannot establish a medically suitable kitchen procedure.

Mental health and continuity of care

If you already receive counselling or psychiatric care, discuss continuity with your treating professional before travelling. Ask about lawful, suitable arrangements while you are in Jordan, how prescriptions will be managed and where you can obtain local follow-up. When booking a new service, ask about the clinician’s credentials, language, confidentiality, appointment format and cost.

For an immediate emergency, use 911. For a routine concern, arrange an appropriate appointment rather than waiting for a crisis. A trusted friend or colleague can help with the practical booking or journey if you want support; you decide what personal information to share with them.

Plan access from your front door

Give the clinic your mobility or communication requirements before booking, and confirm the entrance, lift and room route. The accessible transport guide helps you plan both directions. Keep enough time for reception and any insurance approval required for planned treatment.

For apartments for rent in Jabal Amman for students and NGO staff settling into daily life, the owner offers four apartments by room or as a whole apartment. Confirm the actual address, entrance and rental arrangements. Use that address to plan your own healthcare access; no medical suitability or property access feature is assumed.
