Put your arrival date, permitted-stay end date and course or assignment end date in one calendar. They may be different. A visa’s validity, permission to remain in Jordan and the date a university course finishes each serve a different purpose.

Before travelling: use the right entry purpose

Start with your passport nationality and document type in the Ministry of Interior (MOI) nationality guidance. Establish whether you need prior approval and which route covers study, work or a visit. The full Jordan visa guide explains entry categories, fees and nationality exceptions.

For study entry, the Ministry’s service is submitted by a Jordanian educational institution for a foreign student outside Jordan. Its documents include a passport or travel document valid for at least six months, proof of student status and qualifying residence evidence if you live outside your nationality country. Send the file to your university before travel. Official study-entry service.

For employment or an internship, ask the host who is responsible for entry approval, labour permission and residence. A non-governmental organisation (NGO) assignment letter is not by itself all the legal permission needed for work. Keep the employer’s written instructions with your travel documents and use the human-resources checklist to settle responsibilities.

On arrival: record the permission you actually receive

  • Keep a clear copy of the passport identity page, visa or approval and latest entry stamp.
  • Record the permitted-stay end date and the entry point used.
  • Save your full Jordan address, building entrance and local contact number.
  • Record any foreign personal number assigned to you where the process requests it.
  • Send the university or employer the documents it needs through its agreed channel.

The Ministry announced three months of temporary stay for arriving foreigners instead of the previous one-month period. Use the permission issued for your own case when setting reminders, particularly if your entry document has specific conditions. Ministry arrival-stay announcement. Keep the visa’s last date for entry separate from the end of your authorised stay.

Residence registration: who needs to attend

Current UK government guidance says that people remaining more than fourteen days must report within fourteen days of arrival to the relevant police station with a residence-extension office. It describes fingerprint and iris-scan collection and a 200 JD penalty for failure to report. It also lists exemptions for tourists, pilgrims, transit-visa holders and holders of annual residence visas. This guidance is written for British passport holders; Jordanian authorities determine how a person’s actual status is treated. Registration rule and exemptions.

For a student or worker arriving for a longer stay, have the university or employer identify the responsible office and whether an exemption applies to your actual permission. Arrange an applicable registration early, with your passport, entry record and address documents. A host’s own address reporting should not be assumed to complete a personal registration obligation.

Choose an extension or residence application

ProcedurePurposeCore preparation
Temporary-stay extensionAn eligible visitor already inside Jordan requests a longer temporary stay, subject to approval.Passport valid at least six months, entry visa and latest entry stamp.
Study residenceThe educational institution applies for issue or renewal for students requiring residence under its sponsorship.Passport and latest entry stamp, student-status evidence and previous residence for renewal.
Work residenceResidence associated with the authorised employment arrangement.Employer-led file, including the applicable work permission and supporting documents.

The temporary-stay extension service describes a stay of no more than six months from the original entry date. It does not add six months to any existing end date automatically. The Ministry residence directory distinguishes extension, study and work services; use the one your status requires.

What the study application fee covers

The official study-residence service card lists a 2 JD application service charge per person and a published processing period of fourteen working days. That is a handling charge, not a complete budget for residence, medical screening, university charges or other costs. Additional documents can affect completion. The card also gives a six-month period to use an approval, which is not six months of additional stay. Study-residence service card.

Keep the reference number, requested documents, payment receipt and decision from the official e-services portal. An application submission is not the same as an issued extension or residence permission. Ask the responsible office what protects your lawful stay while a request is being processed.

Keep a semester calendar

Set your own reminders well before each expiry: one early enough to assemble documents, another to follow up on the application. Update the calendar if the course changes, you move address or you plan to leave and return. German Jordanian University (GJU) students can use the student residence-paperwork guide alongside their university instructions.

When arranging apartments for rent in Jabal Amman for students staying a full semester, agree the address documents and rental dates directly with the owner. The four apartments are rented by room or as an entire apartment. Match the housing dates to your approved study and stay arrangements, then use the departure checklist before leaving.
