Before asking someone to post a parcel to Jordan, agree the delivery address and check whether its contents can enter the country. Keep the sender’s receipt, tracking number and purchase invoice. A phone number helps a courier reach you, but the shipment still needs a usable address and the correct recipient details.
Write the address for the delivery method
The Universal Postal Union (UPU) Jordan address sheet shows a five-digit postcode after the locality, with JORDAN on the final line. Its example includes the recipient, area, street and building/apartment details. Obtain the correct postcode for the actual destination rather than copying one from another address in Amman.
| Address element | What to supply |
|---|---|
| Recipient | Your full name, matching the identification you will use if collection is required. |
| Physical destination | Confirmed street, building number, apartment/floor and Jabal Amman district details. |
| City and postcode | AMMAN followed by the verified five-digit postcode. |
| Country | JORDAN for an international shipment. |
| Courier contact | Your working Jordan number and an agreed entrance or location pin where the carrier supports it. |
A physical apartment address and a post-office box are different destinations. Use a box number only when you have permission to use that particular box and the sender has the complete postal address. Ask the carrier whether the chosen service delivers to a street address or needs collection.
Students at German Jordanian University (GJU) should obtain express permission before using a university address for personal mail. Confirm the office that will accept it and the campus: Jabal Amman and the main campus near Madaba are different destinations. The address and paperwork vocabulary guide helps with street, building and floor descriptions.
Jordan Post and the digital postal box
Start with Jordan Post’s official website for postal services. Its national address and digital postal box portal begins with a Jordan mobile number in 07XXXXXXXX format and a one-time verification code. Enter that code only in the service you deliberately opened. Read the offered service and payment terms before registration; a digital-box login alone does not arrange delivery of an existing parcel.
Before paying for a sending service, give the counter the destination country, contents, packed dimensions, weight and declared value. Ask for the total charge, the tracking service included, any compensation limit and what happens if delivery fails. Keep the receipt and photograph the packed item and label. For important documents, choose the service with the evidence of receipt required by the receiving institution.
Customs charges on incoming purchases
Jordan’s current low-value parcel arrangement has zero customs duty and 16% sales tax for parcel contents with a customs value no more than 200 JD. The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply explains the Cabinet decision; Jordan Customs’ personal-shipment FAQ also lists 16% for the under-200 JD category.
For a customs-assessed value of 100 JD within that arrangement, the 16% calculation is 16 JD. This example is the percentage calculation only. Ask for the assessed customs value and separately itemised shipping, clearance, handling or delivery costs before treating it as the total amount due. A checkout price and a customs value can differ.
For non-commercial personal shipments above 200 JD and below 1,000 JD, the Customs FAQ identifies a simplified personal declaration, SD4. Above 1,000 JD it identifies an IM4 declaration. Ask Customs about the exact boundary value, item classification and procedure for your parcel. Do not apply the small-parcel percentage as an all-in quote for a higher-value or commercial import.
Keep the invoice and evidence of payment, with a truthful description of the contents. For medicine, obtain the necessary regulatory answer before dispatch; the prescription medicine guide explains the Jordan Food and Drug Administration requirements. A personal-use label does not by itself approve a restricted product.
In his 28 January 2026 interview with Radio Hala, the Customs director explained that the 16% arrangement starts on 1 February 2026 and retains a 5 JD minimum. For a qualifying 20 JD assessed parcel, the percentage gives 3.20 JD, so the minimum makes the tax 5 JD. Keep that tax separate from the carrier’s other charges.
Track first, then arrange collection or delivery
Use the tracking number from the postal receipt or dispatch confirmation, rather than assuming an online shop’s order number is a postal identifier. Check the origin carrier and Jordan Post where the shipment has been handed over. Keep the latest event and date available when contacting support.
If asked to collect, confirm the named office, that the parcel is ready, the identification required and any outstanding payment. Ask about collection by someone else before sending a friend. For delivery to the apartment, agree when you can answer the phone and meet at the correct entrance. Avoid booking an appointment around an unconfirmed delivery estimate.
A delivery message asking for money
Jordan Post’s warning, published by the Jordan News Agency (Petra), identifies jordanpost.com.jo, myjobox.jo and the Jo-Post application as official channels. It says delivery fees are paid through eFAWATEERcom or in cash on receipt, and warns about messages copying the postal logo. Open the official service independently before responding to a supposed parcel problem.
Do not enter card details through an unexpected “small redelivery fee” link. If you have already shared them, contact your bank promptly through its own official channel. The bill-payment guide explains eFAWATEERcom, and the lost-phone and number guide helps if account access is also affected.
Complaints and an unresolved charge
First complain to the postal operator and ask for a reference number and response period. If that period passes without a satisfactory answer, the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) accepts postal complaints on 117000, through its complaint portal or at Complaints&[email protected]. Supply the tracking number, operator complaint reference, dates and relevant receipts.
For the customs assessment itself, contact Jordan Customs on +962 6 462 3186 or [email protected]. Ask which declaration or payment reference the team needs. Preserve the packaging and photographs if there is damage, and agree how any sender-side claim will be opened.
If you are considering rooms and apartments for rent in Jabal Amman for international students, the owner has four apartments available by room or as a whole apartment. Confirm the actual address after booking and agree any delivery arrangements directly. Before leaving Jordan, use the departure checklist to settle outstanding shipments and update senders.
