Save a few contacts before you need them: Jordan’s emergency number, your embassy’s consular route, your bank’s card-blocking number and a person you trust. Keep a separate copy of essential document details so losing a phone does not also remove every way to get help.

If there is immediate danger

Call 911 for urgent police or medical help in Jordan. Give your location, what is happening and a contact number, then follow the dispatcher’s instructions. Move to a safer public place if you can do so without increasing danger. The emergency-help guide explains how to describe an entrance and location.

Ask a trusted person for practical support if you want it. They can help with a call, transport or keeping records. You do not need to resolve a theft, harassment incident or medical concern alone before asking for help.

Reduce the chance of losing essentials

UK travel guidance identifies pickpocketing, bag-snatching and theft from vehicles as risks. Keep money, passport and valuables secure, and avoid accepting a lift from a stranger. Official personal-security guidance. Carry what you need for the outing and keep a backup payment method separate where practical.

For an unfamiliar evening route, save the destination entrance and arrange the return before a late event ends. Use the getting-home guide and check the vehicle and driver against an app booking. Share journey details with a trusted contact when that would help you feel more secure.

When reporting harassment or a threat

Describe the immediate behaviour and location clearly. If safe, note the time, place, messages, account names or other details that may help a report. Preserve original messages and relevant screenshots. Do not risk a confrontation in order to obtain evidence.

For domestic abuse, the UK government’s Jordan guidance identifies reporting in person at a police station or the Family Protection and Juvenile Department (FPJD), with 911 for immediate danger. Ask about an interpreter if needed and retain the case reference. Reporting and support procedure. For an incident at a university or workplace, ask for the institution’s reporting route as well as considering police help. German Jordanian University (GJU) students can ask the relevant student or campus office; a non-governmental organisation (NGO) worker should use the employer’s safeguarding or confidential reporting process. Keep a record of who received the report and the next step agreed.

After a theft: put the urgent tasks in order

What is missingUseful immediate action
Bank cardContact the issuer through its official blocking route and check recent transactions.
Phone or subscriber identity module (SIM)Protect the account and number through the mobile provider; use device-security tools you already have configured.
PassportReport the loss and contact the embassy or consulate responsible for that passport.
University or work access cardTell the issuing institution so access can be disabled and replacement arranged.
KeysTell the owner or authorised contact and agree how the security issue will be handled.

The lost-phone and mobile-number guide explains account recovery, and the payments guide covers keeping transaction records. Use a known bank or provider contact rather than a number sent by an unknown person claiming to have recovered the item.

Police records and insurance

Ask the police which report or reference can be provided for the incident, then keep it with the date and reporting location. An insurer may need a report, proof of ownership, transaction records and a claim within its stated deadline. Contact the insurer promptly and ask what applies to the actual loss.

If an item is returned, tell the responsible bank, institution or authority before assuming it can be used again. A blocked card or reported travel document can remain invalid. Keep replacement and cancellation messages with your records.

Replacing a passport or travel document

Contact your own embassy or consulate to establish the application, identification, photograph, fee and appointment required. An emergency travel document can have route or destination conditions, so explain any transit and planned departure. Do not book a replacement journey on an assumption about the document’s validity.

British nationals can use the UK government’s Jordan getting-help page to reach consular assistance; other nationalities should use their own foreign ministry’s official route. Consular support does not replace Jordanian police, medical treatment or the Ministry of Interior’s decisions about entry and exit records.

If a new passport number affects residence or a pending application, ask the relevant Jordanian authority and your university or employer how to update the file. The residence checklist and student-paperwork guide help identify the records to reconcile.

Care and support after an incident

Arrange appropriate medical attention and ask the clinician about documentation and follow-up. The routine-care guide and mental health guide give appointment contacts. Keep sensitive records secure and share them through the agreed reporting channel.

For apartments for rent in Jabal Amman for students and NGO workers preparing for arrival, the owner offers four apartments by room or as a whole apartment. Confirm the actual entrance, key handover and contact arrangements. Save the key-handover contact with your other arrival records.
