Choose a study space around the work you need to do. Quiet reading, a group discussion and a live online class need different conditions. Check access and closing time before taking a laptop across the neighbourhood, especially if you plan to stay after class.
For German Jordanian University (GJU) students, the campus library and a public library have different access rules. A student card at one institution does not establish membership at another. Bring what the relevant library requires and separate visiting a space from borrowing books or booking a room.
Two library options to understand
| Space | Published location or hours | Who should check access |
|---|---|---|
| School of Architecture and Built Environment (SABE) library | Daret Othman Bdeir, Jabal Amman; Sunday to Thursday, 8 am to 4 pm. | University users should confirm their borrowing and work-space eligibility. |
| Abdul Hameed Shoman Public Library, Jabal Amman | English visitor page lists Saturday to Thursday, 9 am to 8 pm; Friday, 3 pm to 8 pm. | The main public library is for people aged 17 and above; some services have membership conditions. |
The university lists Friday, Saturday and holidays as closed for its Jabal Amman library. Use the library-specific location rather than the main-campus address. University library hours. The Shoman hours above are those published on the foundation’s English visitor page; plan your session around the branch and check any special opening before travelling. Shoman branch visiting information.
What Shoman membership includes
Abdul Hameed Shoman Public Library publishes a lifetime student membership of JOD 5. The student benefits list includes borrowing up to three books, a two-week loan renewable once, e-books, meeting-room reservations and use of silent study rooms and databases. The library also advertises free Wi-Fi across branches and accessibility services. Shoman library services and membership.
Ask what proof of student status and registration details you need before paying for membership. A membership benefit does not mean a room will be available whenever you arrive. Reserve the space if required and keep the confirmation with your planned session.
Choose the right space for the task
- For uninterrupted reading, ask where quiet study is allowed and put the phone on silent.
- For a group meeting, use a designated discussion area or bookable room.
- For a live class, ask whether speaking and headphones are allowed in the intended space.
- For a large model or messy design task, use a workspace that permits the materials.
- For work involving confidential information, follow your employer’s rules about public spaces.
Do not assume that an empty table permits a long video meeting or a phone call. Ask before moving furniture, spreading materials across several places or leaving equipment to reserve a seat. Give other users space to work.
Before leaving home
Save the library entrance, opening day and return route. Charge the laptop and bring the correct cable, headphones and the files you need. Download reading material in advance if you do not need a live connection throughout the session.
Bring the identification or membership record needed for your purpose. If you are borrowing a specific title, check the catalogue and availability before treating it as part of an urgent assignment plan. Leave time to register or resolve an account issue before the desk closes.
Wi-Fi, sockets and online work
Test the connection and audio before a scheduled call. Access to Wi-Fi does not establish an upload speed or guarantee that a particular seat has a socket. Use the internet testing guide to check the tasks you need rather than judging a connection only by whether a page opens.
Keep sensitive work on institution-approved devices and services. Avoid leaving a laptop unlocked when stepping away, and log out of any shared machine. A public library is useful for study, but your employer may set additional requirements for an online meeting or document.
A campus session followed by an evening session
If you use the campus library during its published weekday hours, finish any staff-dependent task before closing. Allow travel and a break before starting an evening session elsewhere. Keep the evening library’s own closing time in your calendar so you can pack up without rushing.
For a small group project, assign work before meeting and agree which part needs discussion. Book only the time you need and cancel a reservation you cannot use. Keep a copy of the shared notes somewhere every authorised participant can reach.
Food, breaks and the return journey
Follow the venue’s rules about food and drinks; keep a meal outside the study area when that is required. If you are buying food nearby, check opening and menu details rather than planning a long break from an old recommendation. The breakfast and lunch guide and food guide help with that part of the routine.
For a late finish, save the return route and have enough phone battery or a payment backup to get home. The transport guide covers the bus and car choices. Avoid making an unfamiliar staircase your only route after dark.
A study routine at home
Our rooms for rent in Jabal Amman for students building a study routine are available within four apartments, also offered as whole apartments. Ask about the particular unit’s work space, internet arrangements and shared-use rules before choosing it. Confirm costs and inclusions, and use the semester calendar guide to plan busy assessment periods.
